Volunteer Requirements

What are your volunteer requirements?

CPA has a rich history of volunteers being an important part of our, and our childrens’, success.  We would like you to feel as though you are part of our program, and you are all an important piece.

Each program has different volunteer requirements.  


Camps, Classes, and Workshops:  No mandatory volunteer requirement! However, if you have expertise you’re willing to share let us know by emailing info@childrensperformingartsmn.org.
Main Stage Series Productions:  Please see the link below for specifics.


Volunteer Requirements for our Main Stage Legacy Production at Forest Lake High School:

CPA requires a $250 Volunteer Check at the time of auditions or the first rehearsal (whichever comes first). 

  • If the parent/guardian completes their volunteer time, the check will be shredded.  If not completed, you will be notified prior to cashing your check.  The requirements are as follows:
    • Volunteer at 2-3 Rehearsals
    • Volunteer at 2-3 performances
    • Participate in set strike (or fulfill a strike alternative) following the final performance

Volunteer Requirements for our Main Stage Productions at Hanifl Performing Arts Center and/or LILA:

CPA requires a $200 Volunteer Check, due at auditions or the first rehearsal (whichever comes first). 

  • If the parent/guardian completes their volunteer time, the check will be shredded.  If not completed, you will be notified prior to cashing your check.  The requirements are as follows:
    • Volunteer at 2 performances
    • Participate in set strike following the final performance

Background check requirements

Why do you require background checks? Every year, CPA relies on its volunteers to assist to create successful programs.  Our volunteers fulfill roles as guardians, costume and stage assistants, lead chaperones, and so much more.  We are so fortunate to have parent volunteers and their vital contribution to CPA’s success.  We could not do what we do without you

CPA takes seriously its commitment to promoting a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for our young participants.  All volunteers (with the exception of our Junior Directors) will be required to complete a CONFIDENTIAL background check. The background check must be completed through Sterling Volunteers, we can not accept other background checks from other providers. The ultimate goal is to verify identity and prevent unidentified individuals from entering rehearsal practices or jeopardizing a child’s safety.  The safety of the children enrolled in our program is of the highest priority to us!

The cost for background checks is $17.50 each and can be completed using the steps below:

  • Visit Sterling Volunteers and log in through the volunteers portal.
  • Select “Get Verified”
  • Fill out the 4 steps, enter any necessary credit card information and click COMPLETE.

If you are going to be working with the children in ANY capacity, on or off stage, you will need this background check.  If you have concerns or questions about this policy, please do not hesitate to contact us!  Background checks are valid for three years.
